I have a Gill 72" rear blade that I need to use for snow removal this winter on asphalt. Woods, who owns Gill, doesn't have skid shoes, but I would think some could be made. What do they look like? Couldn't I make some out of wood or something? I remember years ago they used to make brake shoes out of rock maple, and if I could clamp some wood blocks on the bottom, would that work?Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you really need skid shoes? I have a 5 foot rear blade on my Kubota and just use the blade itself on my asphalt driveway. I have yet to do any damage to the driveway other than a few very light scrape marks where the asphalt might have a slight high spot. After a few weeks you don't even notice the marks. ....

Well, no, I don't know for sure that I do need them. I've never plowed on asphalt before, and I just didn't want to tear anything up, or wear out the blade edge. ....

I have the same Gill blade and it is heavy. I'm not sure if it would damage the asphalt or not. I use it for driveway maintenance (regrading stone back in the drive). I have about 1000 foot gravel drive to plow. I have the front boom mounted blade for the 420 loader. It has skid shoes built on it, but I'm considering replacing those with some type of wheel or tire. I can take a digital picture of this setup for you for ideas if you would like.

I have a Woods 72 inch blade Model RB72 which I think may actually be made by Gill. It has optional adjustable skid shoes which are actually round disks mounted at a slight angle. They bolt right on using existing holes in the blade. You will find this accessory listed in the current Woods brochures and sales information. The brochure shows that skid shoes are available for every current blade except the RB60. ....
